DC Wedding Planner | Diving in with Juli Smith – Owner of The Garter Girl #tooprettytotoss

Wedding Garter | DC Wedding Planner

Hi Juli! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell our readers all about your business The Garter Girl and what it is exactly you specialize in! Can you tell us how long you’ve been creating wedding garters and who your target market is?

Thank you so much for having me on your blog, Tiffany! You are such a wonderful wedding planner for your clients here in DC, so it truly an honor to share about my wedding garter designs with your brides and grooms!

At The Garter Girl, I specialize in redesigning the wedding garter tradition with modern heirlooms. I’ve been celebrating a bride’s personal style and honoring the wedding garter tradition since 2004. I sew and hand create each stylish wedding garter myself in my studio here in Washington DC. So, even if you think you don’t want a wedding garter or you are on the fence about the whole tradition, I invite your readers to check out my wedding garter designs, these beauties are way too pretty to toss, indeed!

I felt it was so important to showcase your work today because so many of our brides are starting to ditch many wedding traditions such as bouquet tosses and not seeing their grooms before the wedding. I love your hashtag #tooprettytotoss by the way! Why are wedding garters the exception?

Well, certainly if a bride isn’t into the wedding garter tradition, they should skip it. No one should do anything at their wedding that they don’t want to do! With The Garter Girl, I try to show brides new, modern and feminine bridal garter designs and share with them unexpected modern wedding heirlooms that they haven’t seen before. Each wedding garter is designed and individually hand made (by me!) with the each bride’s personal sense of style in mind. In my garters, I use materials like satin, lace, grosgrain and sometimes a little sparkle, so that the bride can celebrate her own beauty, whatever that means to her. With The Garter Girl, brides can custom create a modern heirloom wedding garter that she love, wear and pass down through her family.

Do you have a favorite wedding garter you’re personally created so far?

To pick a favorite wedding garter would be like picking a favorite child – there is no possible way to choose! I just love that each wedding garter that I design and handmake is a bride’s own expression of her personal style – that part is my favorite.

Any new trends with wedding garters you’re excited to see this year? Tell us more!

The wedding garter is the oldest wedding tradition (true!), it has been around since the Dark Ages. I’m designing heirlooms that are meant to be loved, saved and passed down through generations, so I take a bit of a different approach to wedding trends. The Garter Girl is all about the bride’s personal sense of style as what is trending. Whatever she is into, whatever she loves, whatever she is drawn to, that’s what I use to custom create each stylish wedding garter.
