To say thank you, we took a few moments to chat with Brittany more about her new company, how she got into the Wedding Scene, and what lights her fire!

Brittany, thank you so much for providing a Custom Watercolor Quote Piece for our Newsletter signups this week! Can you please tell us more about how you started By Brittany Branson and the inspiration behind your watercolor designs?

I actually had the idea to start my business after marrying my hubby Tim back in October. We were having a beautiful blush, white, and pearl themed wedding on the Chesapeake Bay, but I wanted to add some little details that were a nod to his job and passion as a pilot. I stalked Pinterest and Etsy, but couldn’t really find pieces that were custom enough, or were aviation themed that did not infringe on our classic wedding theme. So, I created my own! I also hand-painted a rather large seating chart. Our guests’ responses were so kind and encouraging, so I figured I had done something special!

The couple is always my inspiration for my acrylic and watercolor designs. They are all custom! I always tell my couples that the custom guest book, seating chart, and decor paintings I create are perfect for either enhancing the vision of their big day, or expressing their personality/hobbies/passions in a way that doesn’t infringe on their big day big picture. I always aim to have my pieces be “pretty and practical,” in that they serve a purpose on the wedding day, but then beautify the couples’ home happily ever after!

What are the different types of services you offer and what sets you apart from other Wedding Artists?

I specialize in custom guest book, seating chart, venue, and decor paintings and signage. Most of my pieces are acrylic on canvas, but I love delving into soft and romantic watercolor pieces (especially for fun things such as signature drink signs). Some pieces include:

  • alternative guest book paintings (guests sign the painting, whether that be balloons, the sky, or even the inside of a floral wreath featuring the couples’ wedding flowers)
  • seating chart paintings (you bet I’ve hand-painted 240 names across three custom canvases!)
  • venue paintings (I’ve painted an alternative guest book of the Grand Canyon before on which guests signed the sky…these are beautiful reminders of your gorgeous location)
  • decor signage (love quotes, welcome signs, signature drinks, menus, you name it!)

What I believe sets me apart from other wedding artists is the “pretty and practical” nature of my pieces. Everything is completely custom and hand-painted. No pre-designed prints here! They are works of art, on real canvas, that serve a practical purpose. And since the couple is personally working with one real artist, I can create multiple, cohesive pieces.

What has been your favorite piece of work you’re created so far?

Oh man, this is a tough question! Two stand out to me thus far! The first is a seating chart painting I created for a Valentines’ Day dinner party styled shoot. I painted fluffy pink and red peonies, to which female guests were assigned, as well as different bowties, to which male guests were assigned. It turned out so preppy and fun, and all I could think was that this type of design would be perfect for a more intimate wedding. The second is a floral wreath guest book painting I created for a Maryland bride. She was having a vintage pink and lavender wedding, so I painted a floral wreath with numerous flowers in her wedding colors flanked by antique gold designs in the corners (as if the wreath were lying in a vintage frame).

If there was anything in this world you’ve be doing besides designing watercolor pieces, what would it be?

There are two things on my artistic bucket list right now! First, I am DYING to create hand-painted wedding backdrops and extra-long aisle runners on unstretched canvas! I feel they are the perfect ceremony statement, but the piece can then be cut up and stretched on to different canvases to create multiple pieces for the couples’ new home. Second, I can’t wait to start live-painting weddings! I would also love to be hired to just live-paint the ceremony venue and location. Some locations are just so iconic or stunning they deserve to be preserved in a piece of art by themselves!

Thanks Brittany for taking the time to speak with us, and good luck to this week’s contest winner!
