It’s been a common trend among a lot of our couples to incorporate their dog fur babies into one of the most important days of their lives. And for good reason! While dogs have been the most popular animals we’ve seen, many pets have been apart of these couples lives since day one so it’s isn’t surprising to us when we get special requests to include them like Jacqui & Jose did for their wedding at The Hendry House. They dressed up their beloved Chloe and Pepper in flower girl outfits and were walked down the aisle during their big day.

Interested in incorporating your dog in your wedding day? Be sure to keep these things in mind while doing so:

  • Weddings can be stressful and overwhelming for a dog that doesn’t adapt well to new environments or is uncomfortable around strangers. If your dog is shy and uncomfortable around people, leave them at home where they’re safe and secure.
  • Check first to make sure that the venue you choose for your wedding allow dogs. Many have a strict no pet policy.
  • Make sure that you tell your wedding party of your intentions before the day. Many people are allergic or scared of dogs, so giving them ample warning will help them prepare if need be.
  • Who’s going to be watching the dog after it’s designated role? Be sure to choose someone that will be with your dog at all times throughout the ceremony. This will relieve any pressure you might feel to make sure that your dog behaves properly.
  • Rehearse as much as you can with your dog before the big day and leave ample time to practice during the actual rehearsal so that your dog (and his or her handler) knows exactly what to do and when to do it.
  • Make to sure to schedule a wash and groom for your dog so that they look and smell good on the big day.
  • Be sure to bring their favorite treats, food, or dog toys to keep them company!
  • Do not forget to include your dog in some wedding pictures, like Jessica & Nick did during their wedding at Josephine Butler!
