A wedding at Anderson House is always a fave, but this moody winter wedding was a great way to kick off the 2022 wedding season. When Katrina and Jason told us about their micro-wedding vision, we immediately went to work designing. With only sixty of Katrina & Jason’s closest family and friends in attendance, we were able to curate an intimate yet extraordinary experience at one of DC’s most historic wedding venues – with an abundance of bold and moody textures (keep scrolling for the hunter-green velvet linens, the gold accented chargers and glassware, and so many more details we were obsessed with).
We can’t wait to share all of the pretty here on the blog today, but when you are ready to talk about YOUR wedding in New York, DC, or beyond, learn more about working with the SBE team here.
Emerald green accents have become part of a quintessential winter wedding color palette. We elevated the colorful details by sticking to high-quality fabrics, velvet accents, and gold embellishments (like the wax seals on their invitations). Katrina was drop-dead gorgeous in her custom Enaura lace long-sleeve wedding gown, and Jason looked dapper in his black velvet suit. White roses were at the center of their bridal bouquet and boutonniere, giving a classic and romantic feel to their winter wedding day.
Katrina and Jason chose to forgo a first look in exchange for an aisle reveal so as soon as they were ready, we headed to the chapel so these two could get married! We kept the decor and florals simple yet impactful. The pews of their church were adorned with baby’s breath garland (giving it the modern accent they were looking for!). On top of that, we paired two lush floral centerpieces on either side of the altar. Once the I Do’s were said and the marriage license was signed, Katrina and Jason took a few wedding portraits in the church and headed to their limousine for the reception!
Once they arrived at the iconic Larz Anderson House, Katrina and Jason headed to the gardens for more formal winter wedding portraits. Halfway through, their wedding party came out and joined them! You’ve likely seen bridesmaids in mismatched dresses before but have you ever seen gentlemen rock different colored bow ties? This was one of our favorite unexpected attire touches! On the other side, Katrina wore a white shawl, and her wedding party wore black overtop their gorgeous green dresses to stay warm. Everyone was looking their absolute best before the ceremony!
When you choose to have a smaller guest list, you can go big on the details. When we started to design Katrina and Jason’s wedding, we just had one request – please no gold chivaris! They were such a moment a few years ago, but now we are trying to steer our couples towards something more unique and luxurious. We will ALWAYS advocate for upgrading your wedding chairs. So while we could go on and on about the incredible hunter-green velvet linens that draped the tables, or the gorgeous gold accented chargers and glassware, all we want to do right now is give a moment to the black velvet modern chairs. Seriously, if you were a guest, wouldn’t you be counting the moments until you could find your seat? I would be!
Excuse us while we take a second to show you every single angle because it was impossible to pick a favorite…
One of the reasons our couples hire us is because they know that ALL the details matter. It’s not just about replicating a photo you see on Instagram. When we work with couples to plan their weddings, we look at how every design decision comes together to create an effortless and cohesive feel for everyone in attendance. At this wedding at Anderson House, that meant adding greenery and candles to the fireplace, creating an escort display with gold-accented tassels, and having a modern three-tier wedding cake sit on display at the center of it all.
Overall, Katrina & Jason’s winter wedding at Anderson House was an absolute delight to be a part of from start to finish. With an intimate guest list of sixty of their closest family and friends, everyone enjoyed an evening at Anderson House, surrounded by laughs and luxury. At the end of the evening, guests enjoyed a late-night pizza delivery (as a nod to their fur baby named Pizza!) and a sparkler exit to end an incredible evening.
